Red Sox designate Cameron for assignment (AP)

The Boston Red Sox designated outfielder Mike Cameron for assignment and recalled infielder Yamaico Navarro from Triple-A Pawtucket. Navarro was active for Thursday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Also, Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis was out of the lineup with a sore left foot. Youkilis fouled a ball off it in Wednesday night’s game.

Cole Hamels Exits Early

If the Red Sox were going to beat the Phillies, this was the only way they were going to do it. Lefty Cole Hamels took a line drive off of his glove hand and had to exit the game after going just four innings.

OF Harris leaves Mets after baby’s death (AP)

New York Mets outfielder Willie Harris has been put on the bereavement list after his wife went into premature labor and their baby died. Manager Terry Collins offered his condolences to Harris and his wife, Trey, before Thursday’s game at Detroit. Harris had gone on the paternity list Wednesday when his wife went into labor.

Ibanez, Worley lead Phils over Red Sox (AP)

Vance Worley didn’t get Dustin Pedroia’s autograph. He got the former MVP’s attention — and the rest of the Boston Red Sox, too. Worley pitched seven strong innings, Raul Ibanez hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the seventh, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Red Sox 2-1 on Wednesday night.
