Carlos Ruiz activated from 15-day DL

By Mike Lederer, PhilaPhans Staff Writer

The Philadelphia Phillies have activated catcher Carlos Ruiz from the 15-day disabled list.

Ruiz was placed on the DL back on May 8 due to a lower back strain. He last played in a game back on April 28 against the Arizona Diamondbacks when he left after one at-bat due to injury.

The Phillies catcher played in a rehab assignment with the class A Clearwater Threshers on Thursday going 1-for-3 with a run scored.

To make room for Ruiz on the active roster the Phillies have placed backup catcher Brian Schneider on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. Schneider injured his hamstring rounding 3rd base in the 4th inning of the team’s Tuesday night game against the Florida Marlins.

Dane Sardinha will continue to serve as the backup catcher for the Phillies.

In 21 games this season, Ruiz is batting .226 with 2 home runs and 9 RBIs.
