To be clear, though, Girardi ain't the GM. If they want to release Herrera, he has nothing to do with it. If they want to add Moniak to the roster, he has nothing to do with it.

Counterpoint, I'd rather trade O'Hoppe than our young pitching in the minors. Imagine, for example, if O'Hoppe became the kind of chip that could get you Brian Reynolds or Cedric Mullins I'm not saying that a Hoskins trade doesn't make sense for 2023, but I look at the Schwarber/Castellanos/Hoskins ...

I suspect the Phillies decent ranking in offense/runs scored has taken a significant hit this week.

Looking (way) ahead, 76ers will be losing two first-rounders in three years, between 2025 and 2027.

If the 76ers' window has closed and they've crashed out into a rebuild, (1) those will be great picks for OKC and Brooklyn, (2) the 76ers rebuild will take a lot longer.

Not a must-win for the Phillies. But potentially close to a must-win for Girardi.
