Topper is a good manager. He's just sticking with what worked last year. At some point though, if things don't turn around, he has to realize that this is a different year. Also, what he said the other night about the top 5 guys in the lineup is true. If those guys don't turn it around the Phils are...

Re: 2023 MLB Trade Deadline rumors & discussion (Deadline: Aug. 1)

I just saw two stories about how the Phillies are pursuing Mets slugger ----- Tommy Pham. Pham has had a long career. He's 35 years old. He had two good seasons with the Cards six or seven years ago, but this is the first time I've ever heard him described as a slugger.

Re: 2023 MLB Trade Deadline rumors & discussion (Deadline: Aug. 1)

I'd love to get Acuna ;) I know that he is LH, but if they are going to make a move, I would try to get Bellenger. Can also play 1B. He actually has a 1,050 OPS against LH Offense needs a big jolt I'd love to see the Phillies get Bellinger, but think his play lately is upping the price tag to where...

Re: 2023 Phillies Discussion (Andrew Painter breaking news)

my recollection re painter was that an MRI showed no structural damage. if that was the case months ago, i don't believe they should have recommend TJ surgery at the time. the question is what happened since then. Despite the results of the MRI, Painter says he still feels discomfort. I think that'...

Cahna is a certified Phillie-killer and Pham is a solid veteran, but neither one of them move the needle for me.

Re: 2023 Phillies Discussion (Andrew Painter breaking news)

Jake Cave playing 1B at AAA tonight I think he's played there in his career. Why not? Hall isn't the answer. Clemons and Sosa are good bench pieces, but not every day players. Cave probably isn't either, but a good idea if Harper can't play 1B, I'm starting to think Cody Bellinger might be a good t...

I said this at the time and got ripped by some here, but then I remembered that Aaron Nola was able to avoid surgery. He's the only one I can think of that was able to do it and most of the time that doesn't work, but I'm OK with him trying.

Re: 2023 Phillies Discussion (Andrew Painter breaking news)

This is why a team never has enough pitching. This is why many have said, "There's no such thing as a pitching prospect." I agree with the assessment that we won't see Painter until mid 2025. The thing is, a team is lucky to get 1 out of 10 pitching prospects to the majors and maybe on or ...

Re: Moniak 10 HR and .322. Better than 90 % Of our guys

Why do people still give Ed Wade credit for his drafting? It was Mike Arbuckle. The best thing Ed Wade did for the Phillies was trade them Brad Lidge when he was the GM of the Astros. Ed Wade was the GM when Rollins, Utley, Howard and Hamels were drafted. He's the GM. He gets the credit for the sta...

Re: Moniak 10 HR and .322. Better than 90 % Of our guys

Moniak's success would not have happened with the Phillies. He could never live up to the expectations of being 1-1. Part of that was the Phillies and part of that was Moniak's, but now that he doesn't have those expectations (or reminder of past failures) he's thriving. He just needed a change of s...
