FRIDAY'S GAME WILL TELL US MORE
I'll start with some assorted thoughts:
-- Agree that Nola should get Game 1, so Nola-Wheeler-Suarez
-- Thor should start Game 4, and Thomson should stay flexible on how long he pitches.
-- If at all possible, it might help them to get Falter an inning early in the series. Could help later
-- Not sure how to do it, but I'd like to see Maton added to the World Series roster. But, like I said, not sure who you drop. I think they need to hold onto Gibson at this point, with a potential seven-gamer

I think you got to hold onto both of them with the potential for any starter to shit the bed really. Especially game 4 which may or may not be an elimination game.Christopher wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 2:08 pm FRIDAY'S GAME WILL TELL US MORE

Steepest hill to climb for the Phillies in a World Series since 93. Split the series in Houston, then anything is possible.
I dunno. I personally don't feel confident the Phils are gonna win any of these the way the Astros wore out the Mariners, and then dismantled the Yankees. I'll be rooting hard, and for the love of God I hope they prove me wrong!

I think the Phillies will lose in 4 or 5, and I'm peace with that. The Astros are the best team in baseball. They have enough pitching to fill two MLB staffs. They are motivated from last year's loss. They are motivated for Dusty Baker.
We've long since passed the gravy portion of the season. This season is a resounding success. Can we steal a game, even two? Absolutely. Can we beat the Astros four times? I don't see it, unless a combination of bizarro developments and guys continuing to play out of their minds (mostly the pitchers) continues.
I'm trying to compare this to another championship situation that Philadelphia has faced, in terms of how steep of an underdog we are. I don't consider the Super Bowl to be a huge upset.
Maybe the 1985 Stanley Cup, which Flyers lost 4-1 vs. Peak Oilers?
Maybe the 2001 NBA Finals, where we never really had a shot?
The 1993 World Series could come close. But these Astros are better than those Blue Jays, who didn't really have much more pitching than we did. (Their offense was ridiculous, though)

2001 Sixers seems apt. They were not beating the Lakers. After game 1 you thought they could take one more game at home but obviously didn't happen.

According to the extended forecast, the 3 games in Philly will be in the low to mid 50s, with a chance of showers each of the three nights, Monday being the biggest chance

If this happens -- and I don't say this lightly -- this Philly Special Super Bowl victory would drop to #2 in the city's most magical sports moments.BelmontShore wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 8:09 pm Same formula. Split, sweep at home. WS Champs.
