Frankly, I'd rather enter 2023 with Falter as the #6 starter, anyway. Because you can never and should never bank on your Top 5 guys making 33 starts apiece.

The Phillies and RHP Sam Coonrod have agreed to a $775K deal for 2023. Coonrad was entering his first year of arbitration.

Thoughts on picking up Evan Longoria for the right price off the bench? Don't think he's got much left in the tank, but he would be a nice veteran to spell Bohm for a day at 3rd, and Hoskins at 1st.
Bellinger would be my first option to do this, but I think he will get a sweet deal elsewhere.

Wonder if the hyper focus/competitve on DeGrom and Verlander could widen the window for the Phillies to get aggressive and bring Rodon into the fold. (Rodon has to be back town from his ridiculous ask, though)

My gut feeling says Phils make a run at Verlander.Christopher wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 5:31 pm Wonder if the hyper focus/competitve on DeGrom and Verlander could widen the window for the Phillies to get aggressive and bring Rodon into the fold. Been thinking about how Nola & Rodon might be related decisions.
If Nola walks after 2023, you really need to have Rodon on board, because your 2024 rotation Wheeler + Suarez + the kids. That's not enough in a year of the Harper championship window.
So I think maybe they try to work out a Nola extension these next few weeks (Buzz is that he can probably command as high as 6/150). If the Nola talks are too rich (or too many years) for their taste, maybe they move to bring Rodon aboard. The great news is is that you'd then have all three aces for 2023.
OTOH is they are able to reach an extension with Nola, I wouldn't be stunned if they pivot to someone like Quintana or maybe Andrew Heaney.
All of which is to say that I'm overthinking it, as always, but they might be focusing on Nola first to get a feel for where things stand.

[The Philadelphia Phillies and president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski agreed to a three-year contract extension, tying the executive to the franchise through the 2027 season, the team announced Tuesday.]
That's great stability at the top of the organization. Wonder what it could mean for Fuld, but he could have much more to learn and he is still very young.

Harper's surgery is today, so we'll soon have more clarity on how much of 2023 regular season he's expected to miss.
