There are a lot of teams that I'm seeing "finishing second" multiple times already with the first wave of free agents.

Phillies are getting it done. If you don't get your top targets, you still end up overpaying, but probably for someone who's not as good

This feels like the first season in a long time where the Phillies had clarity on their budget early on and the front office was able to be aggressive early on in procuring roster upgrades. It’s refreshing.

This is so important. How many offseasons have we had in which it wasn't clear if the GM was going to be able to talk ownership into anything, and then they fiddle-faddled around with leftovers and bargains.?

The comparison here might end up comparing to what Andrew Chafin ends up getting

So 8 man bullpen

Alvarado
Brogdon
Seranthony
Nelson
Strahm
Bellatti
Coonrod

1 spot up for grabs in Spring Training. Maybe 2 as I don't think Coonrod is a lock

I think they still sign one reliever in the $6-8M range and then invite some lottery tickets to spring training.

I will be surprised if they add to the bench, unless some reasonable first-half platoon option falls into their lap for $2M.

Hall, Sosa, Maton, Vierling, Guthrie, Stubbs, maybe Muzziotti will rotate through at-bats. I wouldn't have been happy with that before the Turner signing, but I think it's fine now. Harper will be the greatest midseason addition in MLB.

Oh to be a lefty pitcher. The Phils were doing great, but overpaying for crappy veteran relievers is their kryponite. Knebel, Familia, Hand and in past years, Robertson, Bradley, etc. Not that a guy like Billoti is great, but he's as good as those expensive guys. They should look at how the Dodgers dumpster dive and always come up with live arms.

I expect them to give Cave a shot in spring training

Need improvement from Bohm, Stott & Marsh to supplement the loss of Bryce

I expect Castellanos to continue to suck however
