José Alvarado and Gregory Soto combined to account for 81% of the 100+ MPH pitches thrown by all LHPs in the 2022 MLB regular season

Vierling and Maton were popular young players, who played hard and were home-grown. Vierling, especially, was a favorite of Thomson, but neither one was ever going to be a regular and the Phillies just added a two-time all-star reliever, who is under control for three seasons. The bullpen has a chance to be really good. Now, they might look to add to the bench via the free agents that are left.

Door open to bring back McCutchen, let him start for two months and then become a bench bat.
Or if you want someone with more of a Maton-like profile as an INF/OF, Jurickson Profar is still a FA

I don't see Muzziotti. LH hitter with no pop. I think this increased Jake Cave's chances, which also doesn't excite me, but I think the Phils will continue to look at ways to improve the bench.,Christopher wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 6:19 pm Muzziotti's chances of going north have increased, though with all the missed time in 2022, he'd probably benefit from two months playing everyday at Triple-A

Tim Kelly
@TimKellySports
I don't know if the rising tide has lifted all boats, but there appears to be a certainly element of keeping up with the Joneses in the NL East. The Phillies are operating like a team intent on competing for the division title in 2023, well aware that it may take 100 wins.

Can someone explain to me the appeal of Jake Cave. He can barely hit his weight and even his platoon splits vs. righties don't call out of playing time

If he can pass a physical, Brian Anderson strikes me as a guy who could be interesting to give a shot in RF in a couple of months and put him in the no-pressure #9 hole. Let him rebuild his value on a 1-year prove-it deal.

I'd like to see Cutch back. He could DH and play some LF, then be a nice bench bat. Profar would be great, but probably looking for a full time job and is also probably too expensive.Christopher wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 6:29 pm Door open to bring back McCutchen, let him start for two months and then become a bench bat.

Anderson might be a nice fit. He has some pop and can also play the corners in both the infield and the outfield.Christopher wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 7:34 pm If he can pass a physical, Brian Anderson strikes me as a guy who could be interesting to give a shot in RF in a couple of months and put him in the no-pressure #9 hole. Another arms trade as the Phiks get Yunior Marte from the Giants for Erik Miller...
