Re: 2023 Phillies Discussion
Did anyone see, BTW, that Brian Anderson -- who I wanted as a bridge-to-Harper's return -- is playing 3B and OF for the Brewers and is off to a torrid start? (3 HR, 10 RBI)
They got him for just 1/$3.5
That's doubly bad news if Milwaukee is real. If St. Louis and Milwaukee are both playoff teams, then there's only 2 spots for the trio of ATL/NY/PHI. Maybe we root for a Cardinals collapse.

Phillies have shown mild interest in FA Dallas Keuchel, which is what happens when you don't add enough pitching depth in the offseason

Tim Kelly
@TimKellySports
Rob Thomson acknowledged that Bryce Harper is probably ready to hit in game action, at least a rehab assignment, right now.
The hurdle remains when he'll be cleared to slide. There isn't yet a date -- at least once the Phillies will say -- on when that appt will take place.
=======================
I'm OK with Harper not sliding, LOL.
Zero SB Harper is better than No Harper.

Corey Seidman
@CSeidmanNBCS
Ranger Suarez (elbow) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session today, used all of his pitches.
"They say he looked outstanding," Rob Thomson said.
Phillies will make a decision tomorrow about his next step.

David Robertson has been lights-out for the Mets this year. Fourth save today. Very frustrating

I was happy both times when they got him, but ultimately it didn't work out either time. Too bad he got hurt the first time.Christopher wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 12:35 am David Robertson has been lights-out for the Mets this year. Fourth save today. Very frustrating

Re: 2023 Phillies Discussion
So, the Phillies and Bryce Harper are toying with the idea of putting him at 1B for some games once he's cleared to return to the field (He'll still start as DH-only). That would certainly allow them to put a more optimal lineup forward, as it would be easier to rotate Harper and others -- in and out of the DH spot.
Harper has played a grand total of one-third of a inning at 1B in his career. Would he make Hoskins look like a Gold Glover?

Re: 2023 Phillies Discussion
Looking at the National League, I am sure the currently hot Marlins, Pirates and Diamondbacks will fade to below .500
Those 3 fading would still leave SIX playoff spots for these eight teams
Braves 14-4
Brewers 13-5
Mets 11-7
Cubs 10-6
Dodgers 9-9
Padres 8-11
Phillies 7-11
Cardinals 7-11
If the Padres are a 90-win team and there end up being two quality teams in the NL Central, the Phillies' path to the playoffs will quickly become much more precarious than last year's threading of the needle.

There is no chance Harper could be a worse fielder than Hoskins. I appreciate everything Rhys brings to the table, but defense is not one of them. This might end up to be a good thing. If the Phils bring Rhys back next year, he could be the DHChristopher wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 7:23 pm So, the Phillies and Bryce Harper are toying with the idea of putting him at 1B for some games once he's cleared to return to the field (He'll still start as DH-only).
