Phillies have incredibly limited options to help their starting pitching during the rest of Harper's peak years.
I think they're going to HAVE to dip into the Asian free agent market to add a starter of substance. And it'll cost, but it's only money.

They really should trade Nola at this deadline.Christopher wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 12:20 am Phillies have incredibly limited options to help their starting pitching during the rest of Harper's peak years.

They need young pitchers and hope Painter eventually isn’t broken.

I wonder if the hitting coach has any input or does he stink or do the player just ignore him. Thomson's passive approach obviously doesn't work. Also, thinking that Schwarber will turn things around is plain lunacy. He's been declining both offensively and defensively. Even if he hits more HR in June I don't think he will get as many as he did last year, especially since he won't be getting 5 AB like he did sometimes last year hitting leadoff. Besides, I don't want a player to start performing 1/3 of the way through the season.

Agreed 100%. No reason to keep Nola long term at this point. He is a maddening inconsistent pitcher who will not be worth the money he'll likely command in FA.awfulstack wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 12:21 amThey really should trade Nola at this deadline.Christopher wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 12:20 am Phillies have incredibly limited options to help their starting pitching during the rest of Harper's peak years.

I really hope Dave can take a broader view.
Sometimes you just have shit seasons that start with Hoskins and Painter basically getting hurt in spring training and never really get going.
Our goals should be to retool a bit. Try try try to trade one of Castellanos or Schwarber.
Get what you can for Nola. Assess in offseason.
