Yay another high schooler
Aidan Miller SS/3B
Ranked as the 13th best prospect - so I guess we will see in 4ish years.

They called him a SS but the video clips appeared to be all at 3B. RH hitter.

Matt Winkelman
@Matt_Winkelman
Ranked high on MLB's list, a bit lower on others. Had a hamate injury so power was down, and you worry about the future. Some swing questions, but great bat speed. It is a big talent swing at the pick, and you have to believe in the hitting dev. twitter.com/MLBDraft/statu…

I think I like them grabbing a guy who was rated higher and dropped. A little Nolan Smith-esque.

Kid was a top HS bat a year ago, the hamate injury could turn out to be like Sean Couturier getting mono his senior year where he was a consensus 1/2 prior and the Flyers got him at 7.
[27) Phillies:
Aidan Miller, SS, Mitchell HS, New Port Richey, Fla.
This could end up looking like one of the steals of the first round when we look back at it. Miller won the High School Home Run Derby and All-American Game MVP honors in Los Angeles a year ago and looked like he might be one of the best high school hitters in the class. But he missed most of his senior year after breaking his hamate, making him harder to evaluate. Miller has the chance to hit, and with a ton of power. Even though he was announced as a shortstop, he might profile best at the hot corner.]
I wonder if there were any college bats to be had at 27 so as to not have to wait for an 19yo to develop. Here's to hoping he's a fast riser.

27. Philadelphia Phillies: Aidan Miller, 3B, Mitchell (Fla.) HS
Who is Miller? A longtime member of various Team USA youth teams, Miller has drawn comparisons to Donaldson since he was 15. He's viewed as one of the most advanced prep bats in the draft, with bat speed, plus power from the right side and a strong understanding of the strike zone. Two things that may have led some teams to pass on him: He's already 19, so models that favor youth worked against him, and he missed most of the spring with a broken hamate bone, although he did return for pre-draft workouts.
Why the Phillies took him here: Miller has been one of the most well-known players in this class since his mid-teens, winning MVP of the Under Armour High School All-America Game and the 2022 High School Home Run Derby at All-Star Weekend. He has drawn comparisons to Donaldson for both his power swing and ability to draw walks, showing plus power against high-level competition. So how did he fall here? Miller is already 19 years old and was slowed by a hamate bone injury that derailed his senior season this spring. -- Mullen
