Wasted opportunity.
Suarez was in the strike zone, throwing quality pitches, IN the zone to get DBacks hitters out. He earned those outs. The frustrating part is that the Phillies gave away at bats all night. They had 3-2 counts and expanded the zone to get themselves out. You can't help a pitcher who is getting himself in trouble. Kimbrel proved that., yet again. 2 walks in the inning and missed his spot vs Marte.

And the problem with the getting whacked out is that it can take them a couple of games to get back to normal. Wouldn't be surprised if the offense continues to sputter tomorrow.BelmontShore wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 12:12 am The 1st 3 batters told us what kind of game they were gonna have. Chasing pitches out of the zone. Fence swinging. All this home run action gets you whacked out.
Home run based offense is unsustainable.

The approach against a starter on a 50-60 pitch count was terrible

Not sure how many caught this or how much it made a difference, but it was mentioned on the broadcast that the lighting in the dome with the roof on wasn't that good. Perhaps it would have helped to have batting practice on the field before the first game. Also, I have no problem with bringing in Kerkering for the 7th because he's been lights out so far, but it was also mentioned that the breaking balls don't break as much in the dome. zit looked to me that Kerkering threw the same way he has been, but the ball didn't have the same bite. For that reason, I don't I'd use him in Arizona again.

That said, my understanding is the the roof will be open the next two games. Later starts, 5 p.m. local time, and slight drop in temperatures expected. So nothing from Thursday will carry over, for better or worse, lol.
