Yes, our bullpen sucks. But our defense may suck more.

No FFS. A catcher that is already showing clear signs of regression, historically at an age catchers fall off a cliff, coming off a year where his OPS dropped 70 points, now having a year where his OPS is 100 points lower than that OPS.
I don’t think he is much of a game caller, still good defensively though, but good defensive catchers cost like 1/5 million in FA all the time.
3 more years at 23 million per. They could do plenty with that money that will improve them more. The contract was a mistake the day they signed it, no reason to hang on to the mistake

Brutal loss.
Knebel and Realmuto combined to buttfuck this game.
It's time to start splitting catching duties, JT is screwing up at the plate and with the glove. Dropped the double play ball and he's a double play machine at the plate.
Knebel needs the DL or DFA.
How long with Thomson take to learn what Girardi never did.

Remember when I told y'all, in no uncertain terms, do NOT sign JT Realmuto specifically because of the known and established dropoff for catchers over 30, especially one with knee and leg injuries.
Buster Posey & Joe Mauer, among others all suffered severe dropoffs after 30. The contracts that Posey and Mauer signed crippled the Giants and Twins. Garrett Stubbs is a significant upgrade, at this point.
These guys fall off a cliff and there are years left on this deal with Realmuto, which is now an unmovable contract.

Christopher. You have to look at reality, here.Christopher wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 2:56 amFFSawfulstack wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 2:50 am Not sure what it would take but Dombrowski has to make getting rid of that Realmuto contract a priority. It’s in the running for the worst in baseball
I understand the optimist's outlook, but historically, this isn't something that gets much better. He will have a hot streak, but his mean has slid significantly and he'll return to that lower level we've seen for 2 years.

No, I think folks need to look around at some of the truly awful contracts in baseball. Seriously, do some work. It's not on me to debunk exaggeration. 3 at 23 is truly nothing in this day and age. But start with the catchers, please, and look at some of those contracts and tell me what you'd rather have, that was in the realm of possibly having.

It's not the money, necessarily, and you know I am not one to exaggerate, that's not what I do. You know I had great issue with signing him, at all. I'm relieved it was 3 and not 5, but it's about his lack of production. He's not a productive player, and hasn't been for some time. He also doesn't ever finish a season healthy or even on the active roster.

4 catchers have multi year deals for more than 10+ million a year.Christopher wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 1:45 pm No, I think folks need to look around at some of the truly awful contracts in baseball. McCann has 2/24 left, Grandal 1/18(had a .900 ops year last year and made an all star team), and Perez who is the best comp has 3/60 left.
Realmuto and Perez both have horrendous contracts left.

Stubbs and Realmuto have the same number of HRs, the RBIs are 9 & 21, respectively. Stubbs has played a 5th of the games as Realmuto and Stubbs hasn't had nearly the RBI opportunities as he's batted down in the order.
Garrett Stubbs is making $704k for 2022.
I don't think the concern is exaggerated or unwarranted. It just seems Stubbs and Marchan would have been a better alternative while they wait for Logan O'Hoppe and that $23m put to use elsewhere. And, obviously, this isn't recency bias because this was my position during FA.

The difference between those two and JT is that they both had injuries.BelmontShore wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 11:20 am Remember when I told y'all, in no uncertain terms, do NOT sign JT Realmuto specifically because of the known and established dropoff for catchers over 30, especially one with knee and leg injuries.
