He is a 5th starter - and is adequate for a 5th starter

Agreed. Except for that anomaly where he pitched in the 2's somehow for Texas before coming here, he was a 4.5+ ERA pitcher his entire career. He's a back of the rotation guy who once in a while has his moments. He's off the books next year and Efflin should be as well (no way do the Phils pick up that option). $60M or so should be opening up after this season. I'd pick up Nola's option or try to do a three-year extension. Segura can walk. Gonna need bullpen help again this offseason.

What do you guys think of Ian Happ as a CF for the next year and a half? I cannot see a rebuilding Cubs team paying him $10M next season as he'll be in his 3rd arbitration year. Defensively, he's not as good as Odubel was early in Odubel's career. But he's better than Odubel is now. He's also a much more rounded hitter. Let's face it, Mickey's not gonna do it and there's nothing in the pipeline that looks like a quick fix. Maybe you take somebody like Kyle Hendricks off their hands to replace either Efflin or Gibson with Chicago paying $3M of Hendrick's salary for the remainder of '22 & $6M for '23. That would save the Cubs approximately $12M and will reduce what the Phillies would need to send as so far as players in the deal for Happ.

Just tossin' stuff out there.

Gibson is probably my least favorite type of pitcher. Mediocre and slow as shit. At least work fast if you're going to be boring.
