RHP Noah Song (DFA on 7/29) has cleared waivers and has been returned to the Boston Red Sox.

Phillies are hoping to get Jose Alvarado back during the week they go to Toronto, Washington and Williamsport.

He’s throwing a bullpen today. If that goes well, he’ll throw live BP on Monday, either in Philly or at a minor league affiliate.

Going to really be embarrassing when the Phils struggle to score against actual little league pitching....

Regarding Nola, he can be very frustrating with his inconsistency, but he stays healthy and is better than a lot of pitchers out there. I say keep him unless his asking price is too much. I agree with you on Schwarber. Thomson's reluctance to move him out of the lead off spot and still not giving him any days off irks me too. I don't even like Bohm hitting 2nd. What manager has ever batted two of his slowest players, one and two. No chance for steals, or stretching a single into a double. The obvious thing to do right now is to swap Schwarber and Stott, because Stott can hit regardless who's pitching and is one of the best two strike hitters.

Lorenzen is going to be a very tough call.
He's basically Strahm 2.0 -- he can give you some really nice part-time rotation and multi-inning flexibility, but he's not a rotation workhorse.

Maybe let Strahm and Lorenzen both start 15-17 games, lol. Innings platoon.

I take back every post from last winter in which I encouraged the Phillies to sign Rodon. Holy hell.

To be clear, I don't want Nola back next year under any deal.

That said, it's depressing to see all the Twitterati who think handing $100M to Lorenzen is the answer for the rotation.

Lorenzen is talented and can be very valuable for next year's, but he's very unlikely to be a workhorse starter, nor should he be paid like one IMO.
