The Rays have obtained SP Aaron Civale from the Guardians for 1B prospect Kyle Manzardo, the Rays' #4 prospect
Civale has 2 more years of team control.
I do not understand this trade.

Maybe Casty to the Marlins. That's where he was headed last year before the lock-out. Not sure what the Marlins would give, though.

Nothing wrong with staying put, if the asking price is too high. The Phillies aren't guaranteed to make the playoffs, let alone go far into them if they make it. Why take on aging, expensive rentals that might be mediocre at best. We already have too many of them now.

Hard to know what Phillies are really thinking, but it appears that today's likeliest outcomes are (these are made-up numbers):
-- 75% likely to add at least SOME RH outfield bat
-- 55% likely to add a bullpen arm, even if just for depth
-- 35% likely to add an INF to replace Harrison, otherwise they may just go with Kingery
-- 25% likely to make some sort of move for a starting pitcher; I think this is where our knowledge of front office's thinking is murkiest
-- 10% likely to replace Sosa
-- have to make a trade with Noah Song or officially put him on waivers, at which point a last-place team might grab him or he reverts to Boston
I'm curious about their thinking on Rojas. I want to keep him and I want to play him, but I think he's best served as a part-timer for the rest of this season.

There's a LOT of starting pitcher inventory still on the market today...

The Tigers are expected to trade both Eduardo Rodriguez and Michael Lorenzen by 6pm ET, but sources say Detroit’s asking prices remain quite high for the two starters. Will the Tigers lower their price or will a contender feel the pressure as the deadline approaches?

One staffer says there will be a barrage of starting pitcher deals completed today, maybe in the last couple of hours before the deadline, as desperation begins to factor in for buyers and sellers. Verlander, Flaherty, E-Rod, Lorenzen among the names in play in that corner of the market. Braves, Dodgers, Reds, Astros, Orioles among the primary buyers.
