[The Baltimore Orioles are on the verge of signing veteran closer Craig Kimbrel, sources told ESPN's Buster Olney Wednesday.]
Seriously. Thank God.
I can't take another season watching him bent all up over the mound torturing us with him and the pitch clock while hooking sliders 2 feet off the plate.
You all know damn well he's gonna propel the Orioles to a 1983 WS rematch. Book it.

Bullpen is probably the biggest thing to watch with the Phillies right now. They need one more arm, but it's not urgent and the Phillies aren't in a position of make a desperation move.
I figure it'll be either:
-- Dombrowski is aggressive and just gets the guy he really wants right now (20%)
-- Phillies wait out the market and see what bargains are available in January, especially among guys who thought they'd get better offers (80%)

TIL that Bryce Harper's family moved from Las Vegas to Nashville this year.
(Neither Nevada nor Tennessee has a state income tax.)

That explains him at the game last night.

The Phillies had their in-person meeting with Yamamoto today.
Unlike the Yankees, Dodgers and Mets, we have one hell of a bonkers-ballpark highlight reel from the past two Octobers to share with him.

love that the phillies made an offer. Yamamoto won't accept but that's not the point - phillies have money and are willing to spend on a starter. The question is who.

Giants are out, Yamamoto says.
So presumably it's Yankees, Dodgers, Phillies, Mets, probably in that order.
I have a feeling that Middleton isn't fucking around and has told Yamamoto he'll match any offer he has elsewhere.
Yamamoto wants to win and wants an October spotlight, which is why I think Mets are ultimately out.
Phillies can push hard that they are the East Coast team with the best chance at a World Championship, especially if he comes here. Who can touch Wheeler-Yamamoto-Nola in 2024? For his first year in LA, at least, Yamamoto will be expect to be THE GUY. At the moment, he'd be joining a stronger staff if he came to Philly

I'm not sure there's a starter worth spending huge money on right now if they don't land Yamamoto. If they lose out, they should work to protect their 2025 hopes by wooing the hell out of Wheeler before spring training starts.
