If we get another Chiefs-Eagles Super Bowl during the Mahomes-Hurts era, it's going to be a tall order.

Yes, the KC defense was very good against a below-average SF offense that had some stupid playcalling.
Yes, the special teams turnover probably saved the game for KC.

But, OTOH, Mahomes just had THAT fourth quarter and overtime while playing with probably the worst offensive line and worst set of receivers he'll ever have in a Super Bowl. And the running game was mostly awful.

When they bolster their line & receiving corps, it's going to be an impossible task to stop them.

Lessons of the Super Bowl the 1980s and 1990s: One of the teams is way better and is going to blow you out.*

Lessons of the 21st century Super Bowls:
One of the teams is better, and it can only be destroyed if you cut off the head and put a stake through the heart by playing smartly and aggressively for 60 minutes. Otherwise it will rise from the dead and defeat you. Only Doug Pederson and Steve Spagnuolo seem to have understood this lesson.

*-exceptions include Buffalo Bills losses

Two insights from the Chiefs these last couple years: 1) They completely rebuilt their D on the fly through the draft. 7 of 11 Super Bowl starters were drafted since 2020, including all 3 LBs and the best cornerback duo in the game. 2) It always comes down to the quarterback

gotta give Mahomes credit. they need to temper the GOAT talk, for now, but he's on another level. i dont think theres anyone in the NFL thats really close.

i assume the niners plan was to take away their best weapon Kelce and he still beat them with essentially no name receivers and a shaky OL.

"Saving" Kelce for the fourth quarter and OT reminded me of Rocky switching hands in Rocky III, lol

Once KC started going to him, it was too late to adjust

It has to be disspiriting to see how much consistent heavy pressure Mahomes faced, and it still didn't affect the outcome.

49ers: We didn't know or understand the overtime rules, we never talked about it and we had no strategy for it

Chiefs: We've talked about it every single week since the preseason and knew exactly which plan we'd use, pending the coin flip

In fairness to the KC Oline it was better then the one where they lost to the Bucs but yeah there is still room for improvement.
Drafting Creed Humpreys was a big help. I wanted the Eagles to draft Humpreys as the Kelcy replace but they went with Dickerson
whom they moved to LG. Hopefully Jurgens can adaquatly replace Kelcy when the time comes.
