Matt Winkelman
@Matt_Winkelman
So assuming the tea leaves are correct and this move means we are getting Moniak and Stott. That now leaves 1 bench spot that is Bohm vs Maton vs freeing up a 40 man spot for a bad player.

The best-case scenario for the Phillies:
-- Stott becomes a quality everyday player
-- Moniak is a quality platoon guy who continues to improve and earn at-bats
-- Bohm spends a couple months in Triple-A and improves to the point where Phillies have depth and a nice set of options

Trade Bohm now before he is worth nothing in a trade.

He IS worth nothing right now. I roll the dice that his value is higher midseason.

Rather have Manaea NOW because I don’t trust Nola. Oakland needs a 3rd baseman Now

If only Bohm were that third baseman.
Obviously, we have no idea if he gets the deal done. If he DOES, you have to think long and hard about it.
But if the A's have no interest, or want a top pitching prospect attached to Bohm.....

Yeah,Bohm alone doesn’t get it done. Their only 3rd baseman is Sheldon Neuse ,28 year old rookie astoff

Bohm is not a 3rd baseman tho

I'll give the FO a pass b/c of the Schwarber and CAstellanos signings but signing Herrera was just dumb. Exactly zero teams were "calmoring" for his services from a talent perspective and on top of that the off the field issues. No risk in going to camp with Vierling and others to see what happens and if they sucked, look at Herrera if need be.Christopher wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 4:01 pm Reasonable chance Herrera will never get a plate appearance for the Phillies this year ... in which case they gave him a $1.5M parting gift atop his 2022 buyout.
Where do I sign up for a $1.5M parting gift?

Certainly not sold on Moniak, but if he's good enough to make the Phillies get rid of Odumbell, I'm all for it. It's funny about Moniak, because when they drafted him, the word was that he would hit, but maybe not for power. Almost six years later, he hits for power, but he's not much of a hitter.
