2022 Around MLB general thread

Happy Opening Day.

Bob Nightengale
@BNightengale
So starter Chris Paddack and reliever Emilio Pagan, who nearly went from the #Padres to the #Mets, are now headed to the #Twins for closer Taylor Rogers and outfielder Brent Rooker in opening day trade.

Nope.

Jim Salisbury

Mickey Moniak indeed has a fracture in his right hand, a source confirms. No further details. Was hit by a pitch yesterday. Initial x-rays were clean

Devastating for the kid. He was about to get an extended opportunity at playing time coming off a red-hot spring.

While I'd prefer to see Herrera shot into the sun, he's probably now going to rejoin the club before Moniak, which will create another obstacle. All he can do now is rehab and continue to work his ass off.

Also again shows how little depth the Phillies have. They probably need to put Muzziotti on the MLB roster, because he's already on the 40-man.

Alumni news:

David Robertson retired Andrew McCutchen to close out the Cubs' Opening Day win. His first MLB save since 2018.

Robertson was just a bad luck signing

A reminder that we'll be getting the 2023 schedule fairly soon, and it will have some big changes:

Beginning in 2023, teams will play five fewer games against division opponents, instead playing one series against every team in the other league. Teams will continue to play their “rival” Interleague team four times, twice at each ballpark.

Teams will face their four division opponents 14 times each season -- seven home and seven away -- for a total of 56 games. They will also face the other 10 teams in their league six times apiece, playing a three-game set at each ballpark.

Rather than 16 Interleague games, teams will have 46 such games on the schedule -- four against their geographic rival and three each against the other 14 teams, alternating ballparks annually.

Schedule is out: https://www.mlb.com/phillies/schedule/2023-04

Phillies don't play the Mets for the first time until May 30, and HALF of the Phillies-Mets games are after Sept. 20 (2 of the last 3 series).
