Even though Phillies don't play until tomorrow, they do have to make a roster move by noon(ish) to clear a 40-man roster spot for Bryson Stott. The goal was to trade one of the 40-man players on the fringe, but it's unclear if a match will materialize.

There is a real chance this is a legitimately good team. I think their weaknesses have been overblown and meme-ified. I think their strengths have been largely underrated, and I think that given their allocated resources, their ability to improve via trade is underrated.

I agree. We all agree that they don't have many trade chips, but they also haven't USED those trade chips in the past two years. If there's a shot at making hay in October, this team has the ammo to go out this summer and get someone. This becomes especially true if they catch a break or two, like Moniak turning into a useful MLB player.

Another good plus is they're already tax paying so they can make in season moves that don't involve sending better stuff to get a discount on shitty Freddy Galvis. This time if someone gets hurt they can actually make a move early.

So, the Phillies decided to recall catcher Rafael Marchan and place him on the 60-day IL (hamstring) to clear a spot for Bryson Stott.

(I put this in the MLB General Thread as a response, but I'm putting it here too, to keep Phillies stuff in one place.)

Mickey Moniak indeed has a fracture in his right hand, a source confirms. No further details. Was hit by a pitch yesterday. Initial x-rays were clean

Devastating for the kid. He was about to get an extended opportunity at playing time coming off a red-hot spring.

While I'd prefer to see Herrera shot into the sun, he's probably now going to rejoin the club before Moniak, which will create another obstacle. All he can do now is rehab and continue to work his ass off.

Also again shows how little depth the Phillies have. They probably need to put Muzziotti on the MLB roster, because he's already on the 40-man.

And, while a fifth outfielder is far from the most significant member of the roster, the Phillies were planning to do some defensive maneuvers with Vierling and Moniak both playing in later innings while ahead. One in CF, one in LF.

That really sucks for him. With the rosters back at 26 by the time he comes back, he will probably have to prove himself at AAA now unless CF is a complete disaster

Win total prediction lowered to 79

Not a big believer in Moniak but sucks for him as he's not an abuser so was hoping he'd force 37 out of a job.

Hearing Simon Muzziotti will come up from Double A to fill out the Phillies' outfield in the wake of Moniak injury

Luke Williams would have fit nice with that injury.
