That was my thought last week. ... But, the more I think about, I want to ride him arm in a contract year and see if you get a peak year from him headed into FA. Then let him walk. That's probably the best-case scenario for making a deep run in October 2023.BelmontShore wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 1:38 am I'm seriously considering trading Nola this offseason. Should never have used Nelson
Even if they get out of this, they need to add on, or this may be one ugly loss

I would only want to see them trade Nola if they could get a big CF or 1B upgrade (assuming that they could also trade Hoskins)Christopher wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 1:40 amThat was my thought last week. ... If Painter keeps up what he's started in AA through this season, he will come to ST with an invite and a chance to make the staff. It's happened around the league and the Phillies need to stop waiting until dudes are 22-23 to bring them up if they show merit. Have a viable alternative in the wings in AAA just in case.Christopher wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 1:39 amI think that's too optimistic. Maybe in a perfect-case scenario they can give you some limited August/September innings, though even then you'd worry about their 2023 vs. 2022 workload.FolesMVP09 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 1:37 am
I have to assume Abel & Painter will be options if needed even early in the season

I get to vote in that crap PA election - some of the worst candidates I have ever seenChristopher wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 1:37 amArizona politics are AWFUL, but have you SEEN Pennsylvania lately? Mastriano, Perry, election audits, voter suppression & one of the highest number of white nationalist groups in the nation. Either I'm in Pennsylvania West, or Pennsylvania is Arizona East.BelmontShore wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 1:35 amYou voluntarily moved to that crackhead of a state?Christopher wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 1:30 am Yes, I'm currently at home in Arizona.
So I'll walk all the way ... to the next room.

They don't have the asset base to give a starter away. I think they become stronger as a contender trading him for an OF and a young, projectable arm. As was said, I'm also looking to capitalize on Hoskins come back year and move him, too.

I agree with not waiting until he's 22, but he'll still be 19 on Opening Day (for a couple weeks)!BelmontShore wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 1:43 am If Painter keeps up what he's started in AA through this season, he will come to ST with an invite and a chance to make the staff. Also, no matter what level he pitches at, you probably will want to limit him to 130-140 IP, max, next year.
If you really want to think strategically, maybe the move is to keep his innings at LHV down for the first half and see if you can get 10 starts from him down the stretch in the majors.

Almost every reliever the Reds bring in has a 5+ ERA
Need to build that lead back up
Get Vierling home

I get you. I just don't see how you trade Nola and have a better rotation in 2023 -- not even if someone waves a magic wand over Eflin's knee.BelmontShore wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 1:47 am

I think they're going to give Marsh a year to see what they have, after giving up O'Hoppe. So 2/3 of the outfield next year is Harper & Marsh. Not really room for another guy if you're playing Schwarbs and Castellanos every day.
