Matt Vierling will start in center field in Game 1. Cardinals are starting lefty José Quintana.
Vierling against lefties this year: .760 OPS in 135 PA
Marsh against lefties this year: .486 OPS in 105 PA
Have to reluctantly agree with this move.
I want to give Marsh a full shot next year, but the biggest factor for him will be making enough progess that he's not an automatic out vs. LHP
Probably going to be 2/3 Lefties in the series if it goes 3
I am very worried that the offense is going to be non-existent.

I have reasonable thoughts, but I will not utter them, given the importance of the next 2-3 games.

Here is my optimistic spin
Phils win in 3, but are forced to use Thor/Falter for multiple innings in the series and Gibson starts game 1 of the NLDS
Phils lose game 1 of the NLDS by mercy rule

Would think that they would go Montgomery G3 (if necessary) , but they might use him out of the bullpen

I'd take it. I have no illusions of surviving the NLDS, so it really doesn't matter how that series plays out.

I think it will be Cards in 3 as well.
Although I would not be surprised if they won game 1 and then completely shit the bed in game 2. Then I think they get blown out in game 3.

I dunno. I am not as optimistic as you guys.
Phillies with an awful September finishing the season on a 10 game road trip where they went 4-6, and just enough to clinch. Then right off to St. Louis.
These boys are beat. As much as I would like to see them make this a competitive three game series I think the Cardinals blow them out in 2. Hope I am wrong.

Absolutely do not understand Kyle Gibson as the 13th pitcher on the wild-card roster. It's three games. He's trash right now. Would have rather had one more bat. This is entirely a move made so they don't hurt a guy's feelings. Stupid.
