Long way to go toward that outcome. The other thing I thought we'd hear more about is complaints about Cardinals winning division and then being ousted in 2 games.

At one point during negotiations, the wild-card series between the #3 wild card and the "worst" division winner was going to involve a best-of-three in which the division winner got a "ghost win" in Game 1 -- meaning the wild card had to win two in a row, period.
The way they blew game 1 and with Arenado/Goldschmidt doing nothing - they have no one to blame by themselves

NFL - 3 division winners now play a WC - so it isn't unprecedented.

Oh I 100% agree with you.
I'm just saying it was very close to being reality in the CBA

Mets' beat writer, for your enjoyment:

Anthony DiComo
@AnthonyDiComo
Watching the Phillies knock out Max Fried in the fourth inning only underscores the randomness of the best-of-five NLDS. The Mets, who were way better than Philadelphia, would have had an excellent chance to topple the Dodgers (or any team) in a short series. Opportunities lost. ... The Phillies are a good team. They are an 89-win team. The Mets were a 101-win team. That's a significant difference and clear evidence that the Mets were better.

Weren't they discussing at one point that the highest seeded team could pick their opponent?

Mets were better than the Phillies and should be rewarded

Every player on their team will get a 2022 Participation Trophy

10 days ago Phils lost 13-4 to the Nats and playoff hopes looked dim

Have won all 6 meaningful games since

They may wind up losing this series - but at a minimum we will have had 2 very exciting weeks

They just won a WS - they won't fold like the Cards did
Every roster is different. that WS team was carried in October by Freeman, Albies, Duvall, Soler, among others. None there right now.
right thats why there arent many repeat winners. last was the Yanks I think, way back in 98

Reminds me of 1993 where the Braves (in the NL West at the time) with 104 wins won the division by 1 game over the GIants who had 103 wins.

Embarrassing that a beat "writer" would use the phrase "way better".
