Worth it
Did you catch where Middleton called Rhys Hoskins "the soul of the Phillies" last night? No way he departs this winter. All we can do is hope they don't extend him and just let him walk after 2023.
If he wins WS MVP - I will never criticize him again

There are so many moments from Sunday that will live in lore forever. But another little one is this: Ranger Suarez should, by every measure, be the National League's Gold Glove winner this year. Only by a fluke cut-off of three innings was he not eligible.

Ranger Suarez is, however, the last guy you wanted fielding that Grisham bunt if you're the Padres. He was not going to fuck it up.

There is a long list of Phillies I don't trust in that situation. On the other end of the spectrum is Cooch who made a very difficult play look easy while preserving Doc's playoff no hitter against the Reds.

I'm absolutely cherrypicking a starting date, but I think this list isn't to show how great the Phillies are (they aren't). It's to show how hard it is to get to the World Series, how appreciative we should be of it, and how some GREAT teams have come up short quite often. Think of the great multi-year runs the Dodgers, Nationals, Braves have had during this time.

NL pennants since 2008:
Phillies: 3 (1-1, 1 TBA)
Giants: 3 (3-0)
Dodgers: 3 (1-2)
Cardinals: 2 (1-1)
Cubs: 1 (1-0)
Nationals: 1 (1-0)
Braves: 1 (1-0)
Mets: 1 (0-1)

Chris - you and I have seen 6 WS appearances. I go back to 75 and only LA and STL have more in that span (7). Braves also have 6. Mets just 3

To get to the WS is an accomplishment. Teams like the Mariners have never been to 1. Then you have teams like the Padres & Rangers whom have never won one or the Indians who have not won one since 48 and blew 2 great opportunities in 1997 & 2016

We have fortunately seen 2 championships. One more would be great, but the season was a success regardless

Yep. Wins in 1980 and 2008. Losses in 1950, 1983, 1993 and 2009.
Of the losses I saw, the only one that truly made me cranky was 1983, but that's because I was 12.
Even though I hated losing to the Yankees, I was much more bummed by 2011 than 2009, because it was an opportunity thrown away. 2009 was essentially a coin flip series, and we lost it. But we'll always have that NLCS win over the Dodgers.

Well now I know that I am 3 years older than you....

83 was disappointing because, as pessimistic as I usually am, I was convinced that they were winning, especially after game 1. I still blame Owens for not pinch hitting Lefevbre for Carlton in the 6th in game 3 for costing them the series

I was convinced they were winning, because at that point I was a spoiled fan: 2 series in 4 years!
In retrospect, that was a nice ballclub the Orioles had, and I think the Wheezers ran outta gas
