-- Bake McBride, 1980 World Series

Re: Home run ranking fun
When they won yesterday, immediate reaction was first of course. I also think that Shane's slam against CC and Rhys' HR in G3 of the NLDS deserve consideration if we were doing a top 10 as those were the moments that made winning the series seem possibleChristopher wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 4:49 pm OK, we've earned some fun and more chatting about Phillies history.

Re: Home run ranking fun
I'd put Schmidt's higher. That was a team that spent a harrowing September trying every way possible miss the playoffs. But once it got in, it's like a switch flipped and they simply were going to find ways to win. Schmidt's HR was kind of the release valve on the pressure cooker.

The Schmidt HR, like the Bryce HR, due to bad managing. Pitching to Schmidt with Don McCormack on deck

Re: Home run ranking fun
Not top 10, but was certainly one of the most exciting walk-offs and a great call by HK
Now a top 10 list of HRs not involved in clinching a playoff spot or in the playoffs could include (in no order)
Dernier
Schmidt's 500
Schmidt's 4th HR in the 76 game
Bryce's walk off slam
Diaz's walk off slam
Bake's Sept 80 walk off
There were a ton of HR walkoffs 07-11 - too many to remember them all. My favorite was Ibanez April 09 as I was at the game
Re: Home run ranking fun
I was in college when Diaz hit his. Remember running around the apartment and making a scene. Thanks for the reminder.

I am trying to be as unbias as possible, and think about what happens next if the HR didn't happen.Christopher wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 4:49 pm OK, we've earned some fun and more chatting about Phillies history.

I got to say Schmidt (He Buried it!), and SIsler are pretty much a dead tie as they both would've went to a one game playoff.
Harpers is second as we all know what has happened, and would've happened had he not hit it.
Then Dykstra. That was the turning point as the Phillies were about to get buried 3-2 in the series coming back to Philly.
Then I got Stairs ripping one deep into the night...
Victorino's HR was more about the drama unfolding in game 2 with the long at bat by Myers off then Cy Young Candidate CC Sabathia.
Sarge's HR was the exclamation point in that series. They were winning it even if he didn't hit that HR.
Than Bakes as it was a game 1 HR and the series was just getting started.
Honorable mention to Utley's HR off Lowe, and Eisenreich's Game 2 shot in 93.
Hopefully, we can add one, or two more to this list by next week...

If you follow @didthephillieslose on Twitter, he has a whole two day thread of memorable home runs in Phils history. All of these mentioned in this thread are on there.
