A) Wouldn't Rizzo be a chaeper option?

B) Wouldn't a Hall/Realmuto/Veteran be a cheaper option?
Hall is not a starter

Should've said platoon Hall/Veteran/ Realmuto...

I get it. Hall doesn't hit lefties well. I still think he deserves a shot.

No thanks on Rizzo.

We already have him in spades.

Rizzo will turn 34 next season, has had a bad back needing epidurals to play.

He's hit a combined .236 the past 2 seasons with 188 K's in 961 at bats.

Turned down $ 16 million for next year from NY, probably looking for at least $ 20 mill per year. At that point the 2/50 per year Chris suggested for Abreu would look a lot better in the lineup.

Jose Abreu is at least a .300 hitter ( .304 BA/.378 OBP last season ) and has shown some power in past years, averaging 31 HR / 110 rbi for his career.

as far as signings, I don't see any room for Yoshida unfortunately. Nothing to do with money but with Harper, Castellanos, Schwarber, no room for a LFer.
Yeah, if there were any thought that Yoshida could play CF, I'd be very willing to move on from Marsh. But I can't seem to find any evidence that's the case. Bummer.

All signs point to Rizzo ending up back in NY. Plus, he got the qualifying offer of $19.6M from the Yankees. Not giving up a draft pick for Rizzo.
He was fun to watch, but I really don't see a spot for Hall on the Phillies.

I think getting to Game 6 of the World Series is only going to make Middleton hungrier and more willing to make the final leap.

Specifically there's already been mention of Rodon by the Phillies' insiders.

It's hard for me to say, "No, they shouldn't sign him," because (1) he's awesome, (2) what concern of mine is the Phillies payroll?

That said, should there be any concern about Rodon? I assume he'd be looking at 5/125 as the ballpark for a contact. That would give the Phillies an amazing setup of two righties and two lefties in the rotation. So do you have faith in him staying healthy and having his past control problems fully behind him?

40-man musical chairs:

The Phillies announced that they have claimed two relievers off waivers from the Giants. Right-hander Luis Ortiz and left-hander Andrew Vasquez will jump to Philadelphia.

Meanwhile, Phillies also outrighted five players: right-handers Mark Appel and Hans Crouse, lefties Kent Emanuel and Damon Jones, along with infielder Yairo Munoz.

Vasquez was briefly in the org in 2022

Thought Crouse was going to be a piece. Only 24 so theres time but his stats are mediocre at best.

So what's the state of the rotation right now?

1. Wheeler
2. Nola
3. Suarez
4. _______
5. Falter
6. Painter (later in 2023)

Obviously, there's Rodon talk, but he's got a dozen teams eyeing him. What are the Phillies' realistic odds there? 10%

I think they need depth just as much as they need solid guy to add to Wheeler/Nola/Suarez. I'd like to see them add TWO starting pitchers. What does everyone think of Jose Quintana, who might have been remembered as the guy who quickly shut down the Phillies' postseason if it hadn't been for the 9th inning of Game 1? I think he could be had on a two-year deal. ... Worst case scenario, you're getting innings from a guy who's essentially a #4. The innings have to come from somewhere, right?
