TREA TURNER IS A PHILLIE.

Maybe it seemed inevitable, but we're Phillies fans, so we're used to things not turning out as planned.

Just a fantastic signing, and -- in the second half of 2023, anyway -- this offense has a chance to be ridiculous.

Turner gets the Harper deal, spread out over extra years to lower the AAV. A win for both sides.

This moves means there's plenty of room for other things, most importantly a dependable mid-level starting pitcher. I don't think Taillon is out of their reach by any means. Walker would be pretty good, too.

Agree 100% with Skyjack on extending Nola. I have jumped off the Eovaldi train, given the extra draft picks that would lost (after also losing draft picks for Turner)

The $27.5 million AAV is a crucial number. That's what it counts for on the books. When I ballparked the Phillies with ~$60 million to spend, I had Turner at $32.5 mil, which was Seager's AAV last year. So Phillies could still have another $30 mil to spend to get to '22 total

For anyone who thought about how this affects any prospects in the system. Their only shortstop prospect of note is 18 just finished a season in the DSL and their best middle infield prospect just made it to hi-A. Which is exactly why they were very in on free agent shortstops.

Trea Turner is a dead-perfect match for Barry Larkin through age 29, once you account for Turner missing 100 games to the pandemic. Larkin was NL MVP at 31 and averaged six wins a year from 30-35, strike-adjusted. This signing rocks. #phillies

Turner is 10th in fWAR and 15th in bWAR since his rookie year (2016). The funny thing is the guy who is closest to him isn't Harper, it is actually Realmuto. He could really be their best player.

Love all the non-Phillies talking about how MISERABLE we're going to be in 2030 when we're paying a pair of 38-year-olds a combined $55M.

We're Phillies fans. Our superhero power is that WE'RE ALWAYS MISERABLE. Who gives a flying truck about 2030?

I resemble that remark

Not a big fan of the signing. Too many years/$$$, but it is what it is. Would have rather had Boeggarts if he would have taken that deal, but it keeps Bryce happy

Turner's #s dipped last year. Hopefully not a sign of things to come.

His defense is maybe a little better than mediocre at best

On the positive, big improvement at leadoff with him

well tax threshold should be north of $280MM by 2030 so should have money leftover to field a competitive team

We were miserable after 2012 after we had that marvelous run.

We can be miserable in 2030 after this marvelous run...

Turner flirts with the Padres but says yes to the Phillies.
Yeah, baby. Now get Rodon or Taillon.
Told you I had them on order, seems like a split delivery.

Okay,Santa…Seems like they’ve got about $30 mil still left to stay under the Cohen tax…Gotta believe Rodon gonna be in the $30 mil AAV…Taillon maybe $25 …With Painter,Abel, and McGarry in the wings, maybe a Stripling or a Quintana for $20-25 /3 years,,then really fortify the BP,and we’re good

Just looked up Quintana and Stripling’s last year’s salary. Both less than $5 mil per
Should be able to get either one for less than $10-12 per for 3 years
Stripling a local guy from Blue Bell
That would still leave about $20-25 mil for BP and Bench.
