Hard to say for sure, and I hope they are open to creativity, but I think the folks getting the most extra at-bats in Harper's absence will be Vierling & Hall.

Hall as a DH, and Vierling at a corner spot, allowing Schwarber or Castellanos to DH.

I also hope we see a lot of Stubbs behind the plate in the first half, allowing Realmuto more days at DH after a very long season. Keep him fresh.

I'm still hoping for a lefty hitter that can play corner OF and be a late inning defensive replacement for Hoskins. Hall can be pitched to and can't seem to hit a breaking pitch, but he does hit mistakes out of the park. As for Vierling, I see him playing a lot. It seems like he's one of Thomson's favorites, but he's not an every day player. I agree on seeing more of Stubbs to give JT more days off from behind the plate.

I think it would be hard to find all three of those things:
-- LH hitter
-- plays OF
-- plays 1B

One name that comes to mind is Brandon Belt, but you can't really put him in the OF.
On the other hand, a LH hitter who plays OF but not 1B is Corey Dickerson.

These are the kind of guys you'd be looking at. If you want to grab one for $1.5M, sure. But that seems more like a move made in July for the playoff bench than for April/May.

Phillies should get involved in the trade talks if the White Sox are shopping Liam Hendriks, especially given that the Mets are a likely destination. At some point, you have to think defensively with some of those moves. Plus, he's a need anyway

He has already signed with the Padres.
Plus he's more of a swingman starter/middle reliever who is getting the opportunity to start in San Diego. Phillies preferred him for the pen, but he wanted to start.

Take back my comments on Chad Green. I did not realize he has an injury that makes it uncertain how much he'll contribute in 2023. Would maybe make sense if he's take a team-friendly two-year deal while he rehabs, but he's not a solution for the back of the pen this year.
