How long after surgery will they know?

I suspect they'll know as soon as the surgery takes place, because they'll look inside and see if they're doing a lesser repair or a Tommy John surgery.

I think best-case scenario is probably late May, but I also think the Phillies should be aggressive and put together a roster than can be without him for half the season.

We should continue to note how incredible it is that he was able to accomplish so much at the plate while injured. Thank goodness for the DH, but what an October, with 6 HR, 13 RBIs and an OPS around 1.000

sucks if he misses any time but i dont think they need to overreact or change their game plan. They went 32-20 without him last year. Get Trea, get a starter.

Sure. If they get both Turner & Rodon, then I won't complain (much) about a couple or few months of PT for Vierling, Hall, Maton.

But it seems there's an opportunity to add a corner OF/1B bat to the mix and put the worst defensive guys at DH for a while. Corner bats are easy to find.

Also, if you're depth is such that Vierling/Hall are getting starts, what happens when inevitably someone else gets injured before Harper's return?

Deal with it at the deadline.

Most speculation seems to lean toward "can DH sometime in June, but don't expect much outfield play in 2023"

I think they should get a legit corner outfielder and have Schwarber/Castellanos rotate at DH, if that's the case.

Reminder that the Phillies were the only MLB team that was even remotely competitive against Alcántara this year. They beat him three times. If not for that, they miss the playoffs outright and there's no NL pennant.

I know many people on here have mentioned it, but it's worth reiterating that, even if Painter is ready for the majors, putting him in the Opening Day rotation is pretty dumb if your goal is to have him pitch meaningful innings in September/October.

If Cody Bellinger gets nontendered by the Dodgers, is he a guy to take a look at as a flex-guy for OF/1B, especially if Harper could miss a third of the season?
