With signing Correa, the Mets could now trade Brett Baty, who has nowhere to play, for Liam Hendriks

Not a lot coming out from the Correa/Mets talks.
Both sides seem firm: Mets want protective restructuring of the deal; Correa's side doesn't want to reduce the guaranteed money.
One insider says it's about 55% that the deal still happens.

MLB rumor that Trout a la Turner wants to come home to East coast
Yanks,Mets,Phils maybeRed Sox most likely targets
Question:Would you give up a package including Nola,Hoskins,Castellanos/ Schwarber plus prospects forTrout?

It's kind of mind-boggling to even know where to begin on Mike Trout.

First off, starting this year he's still owed 8 years, $297 million, ending with his Age 38 season.

Then there's the #1 question: His back. He has a spine injury that cannot be healed; he simply has to do extra conditioning work on it through the rest of his career, and there are no guarantees. It's uncharted territory, which is scary when you're dealing with a $297 million, plus what you'd have to trade to acquire him.

What would he cost to acquire?

On one hand, the Angels would be looking for a team to take the entirety of Trout's contract, with the upcoming sale of the team. That might push the price down just a smidge.

In return, they won't want old players, big contracts or guys on the last year of their contracts. So forget Nola, Castellanos, Schwarber.

Right off the bat, the deal would require one of Painter or Abel. That gives me huge pause. The Phillies can buy all the bats they want every year, but acquiring and developing pitching is much harder. Painter & Abel must be the future.

And that wouldn't even be enough. The problem is that we're not rolling in prospect depth. So maybe, just as a starting offer, you're looking at Abel, McGarry and one of Stott/Bohm.

Interesting though,rightChris..Cohen certainly wouldn’t be shy about opening the pocketbook..They have ,maybe the best young catching prospect in Alvarez re:trade chip..
I agree that Painter and Abel are off the table and Nola is 1 year away from a big contract,so maybe the Phillies are not ideal. Would a pkg of ,say McGarry,Stott and Abel, plus Hoskins interest LA?
You know Trout could force them to thePhillies by vetoing the Mets and Yanks
The impending sale of the Angels will figure into the mix big-time
How bout the Phils buys suite at the Linc for the entire Trout family for the length of the contract and restructure the deal to reduce his AAV ? Out of the box.
How does Turner.Trout,Harper,Schwarber Realmuto,Bohm,Castellanos,Marsh,Maton sound?

Yes, Trout does have a no-trade clause, so that could come into play if he wants to be stubborn. Would he go so far as to screw over/alienate the Yankees, though?

The good news is that O'Hoppe looks like the catcher of the future for the Angels, so maybe they're not as interested in a catching prospect from the Mets -- at the moment.

I can't imagine Hoskins interesting LA. Again, he's a pending free agent.

Abel/McGarry/Stott could work.

Here's another thing to consider: Where does Trout play. Even if he CAN stay healthy, he's probably going to need to move to corner outfield. Suddenly you're looking at some additional logjams in that respect.

And another huge factor: Are the Angels shopping Trout because they want to make a big attempt to keep Ohtani? Or are they planning to shed both. I think the Mets & Yankees are far more interested in Ohtani than Trout, which could be to the Phillies' benefit.

I don't think any of this gets to the front-burner before July, at the very earliest. Teams will want to see how Trout does in the first-half, health-wise.

Two years ago, I salivated at the idea of Trout in Philadelphia. Now, I'm not so sure it's the best idea, all things considered.
