"Red Sox thought they’d reached agreement with Zach Eflin on a 3-year, $40M deal, but the Orlando native shopped it to TB, who matched it and signed the RH starter"

Ooh, Eflin burns Boston.
I have to admit I don't understand that from Boston's end, anyway. They are unlikely to be a playoff team in 2023.

Texas Rangers sign deGrom. Five years, $185M.

LOL Rangers
LOL Mets

In bad news, extending Nola just got way fucking more expensive.

Also also, Phillies face Rangers on Opening Day. lol

Rodon is going to make an absolute haul now, in the shrinking game of musical chairs and available aces.

Got to think that the Mets are going to try to get him or Verlander

Degrom took the $$$, Rangers going nowhere

34 years old
History of arm issues
Mediocre at best team

DeGrom is one of the best pitchers in our lifetime when healthy. Just think this is going to be an epic bust for the Rangers

I think it would have been great for the Phillies if the Mets were spending $37 million a year on a 35, 36, 37, 38, and 39-year-old pitcher who has thrown 156 innings total between the ages of 33 and 34. Much better than whatever they will now spend that money on.

I disagree somewhat with this take, but it depends what the Mets do. They're hardly alone in their interest in Rodon & Verlander.
If they want to make Nimmo the second-highest-paid OF in free agency, they can go ahead.

Their rotation at the moment:
Scherzer
Megill
Carrasco
Peterson
Lucceshi

Normally take Heyman with a block of salt, but the second item is concerning. Yes, we've waffled on Taillon, but the pickings get even slimmer after that. Do the Phillies overpay Taillon by $10M or start thinking about someone like Taijuan Walker (who will probably be in same region as Taillon)?

Jon Heyman

Mets and Yankees are among teams talking to the top two remaining starters; at the moment Mets seem more intrigued by Justin Verlander, Yankees more focused on Carlos Rodon

Mets and Rangers are among many, many teams in on Jameson Taillon. Has huge market. Will get extremely good deal in this market.
