On the Red Sox message board, there's daily talk of trading for Hoskins, but I just don't see that happening given that:
-- the return on Hoskins would have to be light, given he's only got one year on his contract
-- Phillies have let almost all of the FA first baseman pass on by
More to the point, it looks like the Red Sox are now going to headed back to a nearly empty buffet table and may end up signing two from the group of Jean Segura, Justin Turner and McCutchen
Phillies definitely need to add a RH arm to the back end of the pen, someone flexible who can handle 7th, 8th or 9th, depending on the day in a shared-workload with Alvarado & Dominguez

Ottavino to the Mets for 2/14.5

Ottavino gone to Mets. WTF are you waiting for Dumbo? 2 years $14 mil.
I *am* glad to see money go to the players, rather than into owners' pockets. That said, it will be extremely enjoyable to watch the Mets fail, too.
In a weird way, the Phillies are the NL champs, but will enter 2023 with very little spotlight/pressure, comparatively speaking.
Dombrowski got the big stuff taken care of early. I have faith they'll add to the bullpen before Opening Day, but even if they don't it's far, far easier to bolster the bullpen in-season than it is to add a quality SP or All-Star shortstop after Opening Day.
Honestly, I hope their stealth priority this winter is getting that Nola extension done. I'd even open talks to see if Wheeler is amenable to an early 3/90 extension for his age 35-36-37 seasons. (2025 through 27). I think he'll age very well and that extension could end up below market rate.
Verlander & Scherzer are ancient. The Phillies' advantage over the Mets in 2024 and beyond is going to be Nola/Wheeler/Suarez/Painter/Abel/McGarry/Walker
