While they've dabbled with Sosa and Cave in CF, I think that Guthrie is the only guy who can legitimately be placed in CF without disastrous implications.

I think they'll acquire a true backup CF sometime in the first half, especially if Guthrie struggles at the plate.

(And, no, while I think Kingery might help the roster in other ways, he can't be the backup CF either)

My PTSD kicks in when people mention names of former players from the Terry Francona era.

A's looking to dump 24-year-old CF Cristian Pache, once a top prospect.
Phillies should see if they'll take a lottery ticket farmhand for him, then let him play everyday in CF at Triple-A.
Not clear whether he'll hit, but he's a glove they can throw in CF in a pinch.

Pache is out of options, otherwise the A's would have done that. But I'm with you on this. He's never hit in the majors, but he did in the minors and hit over .300 this spring. Let Long see if he can help him. At the very least, he's a Gold Glove caliber OF and a better option than Dalton Guthrie.

.278 career minor league avg in 2200 at bats.

Major League is abysmal, only 350 ab but .156 avg and .205 on base pctg.

Good Glove, but no real power or stolen base appeal.

Almost 25, his top prospect star is about burned out.

Franzke & LA
@FranzkeLA
Hard to believe that in less than 48 hours we’ll already be mad at the Phillies about something

Called it.
I 100% agree he's no longer remotely a top prospect. But he's a great glove (which we need) and worth a flyer in exchange for a 23-year-old who had a 4.39 ERA at Reading
