Bryce Harper has been cleared for “dry swinging” (no contact with a ball) and is due to arrive in #Phillies camp on or about March 8-9ish, according to Dave Dombrowski.

Red Sox fans argument at this point is that the Phillies are villains for potentially ruining Song's last real shot at an MLB career by sticking him at the end of the bullpen for a season when he needs to be pitching regularly in the minors and developing. So we should do the thing that's most considerate to Song and return him to the Red Sox.

OK, bro.

Kind of weird he's not there already.

I mean. I get he can't do much, but his presence around would be uplifting (for lack of a better term).

SPRING TRAINING INJURIES
Gavin Lux (Dodgers): out for season
Tyler Glasnow (Rays): out 6-8 weeks
Joe Musgrove (Padres): can't throw for at least 2 weeks due to broken toe; doubtful for Opening Day
Seiya Suzuki (Cubs): out TBD with moderate oblique strain

Hate injuries.
No more injuries, please.

Would be nice if Gregory Soto could get to camp at some point. Still having visa issues. Is working out at Phillies-owned facility in Dominican Republican.

(For perspective, same thing happened to Ranger Suarez last year and he didn't arrive at camp until March 17. Things turned out OK.)

I think it's mostly precautionary.

It's common for pitchers to get elbow tenderness in the 1st week. I would think Painter is probably pushing himself a bit to try to impress..they need to manage that, make him rest and mainly stay within himself, stop trying to overpitch. Stop trying to eek out an extra mph on his fastball or get extra spin on his slider.

Best-case scenario, this will let them put him on a path to go slowly and not pitching a ton in the first third of the season, so that he can save his best innings for the stretch.

Worst-case scenario, he's making Triple-A rehab starts in May 2024 and maybe is able to contribute in September 2024. But he wouldn't be his full self again until Spring 2025, at which point you want to make sure he limit his innings THAT year.

I do think that, regardless of whether Painter is available, I want to see them deploy a six-man rotation at times in the first part of the season. Without Painter, I guess that puts Plassmeyer or Sanchez into the #6 spot.
