Re: Hoskins Hurt - KNEE
Some folks have mentioned Luke Voit for a possible platoon with Hall, but the catch with him is that he has reverse-platoon splits -- he's RH batter who hits righties far better than lefties. If we end up looking to add a piece, we need a part-time righty who can mash lefties -- someone like Darin Ruf.

I am sure that the Mets would trade Ruf for Dominguez,,,,Christopher wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 11:09 pm Some folks have mentioned Luke Voit for a possible platoon with Hall, but the catch with him is that he has reverse-platoon splits -- he's RH batter who hits righties far better than lefties. Phillies 1B Rhys Hoskins underwent an MRI today that revealed a left knee anterior cruciate ligament tear that will require surgery. The recommended surgery is an ACL reconstruction. Additional details regarding the surgery, including the date and surgeon, are to be determined.

I think Bohm needs to stay at 3B. He has a chance to become an above-average all-around player there. At first base, he's worthless if he doesn't hit 30+ home runs, and you've killed depth by making Sosa a full-timer.
I think they'll take the first two months to see what they have. Cave, Guthrie, Clemens, Kingery, Hall are all going to get ABs, most likely, at some point.
If they need to make a trade eventually, 1B is just about the easiest thing to acquire in the whole league.
It does, however, stifle some flexibility if they want to trade for a SP this summer.

In a perfect world, Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins, Ranger Suarez, Edwin Diaz, Brandon Nimmo and Carlos Quintana would all be healthy for Opening Day and we'd have some great battles with all those guys in the Phightins vs. the Amazins. But that's not how baseball works. Opportunities for guys to step up in a long, long season.

Phillies are going to have to trade for someone at some point
Hall will hit some HRs, but not do much else
Cave, Kingery, lol
It also hurts their depth when others are out
Just need to survive until Bryce gets back

The ebb and flow of a 162 six month season will have its twists and turns.
I am saying it. Hall is going to have a solid season. You need to give him that shot to be the every day guy.
Come All Star break you will asking the name of that guy who slammed his bat down when he hit that home run in the playoffs last year.

Even with that positivity, though, the reality is that Hall was already going to start 50% of the games during the first 2-3 months.Captain Obvious wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 11:10 amYep!Christopher wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 11:53 pm In a perfect world, Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins, Ranger Suarez, Edwin Diaz, Brandon Nimmo and Carlos Quintana would all be healthy for Opening Day and we'd have some great battles with all those guys in the Phightins vs. the Amazins. We are now looking at some combination of Sosa, Cave, Kingery playing everyday, which is decidedly a downgrade from Hoskins.
We were ALREADY expecting Hall to step up. Now someone else (or a combo) must step up too. And this will make it harder if anyone from the group of Castellanos, Stott, Marsh struggles. They will also have to avoid the temptation to ride Realmuto too hard in the first half. He should be getting a day a week where he's not behind the plate during the first half. That actually might be a better lineup than some....
C Stubbs
1B Hall
2B Stott
SS Turner
3B Bohm
LF Schwarber
CF Marsh
RF Castellanos
DH Realmuto

Fk.....
Could have saved the MRI and just scheduled the surgery.BelmontShore wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 5:29 pm Hoskins likely done for the year.
I think he just popped his ACL because he went back on a ball he should have charged. This is what happens. You're supposed to charge short hops, he goes backward and plants his left leg and he has a non contact injury, knee just exploded.

CJ Cron is an interesting name to watch on the trade front. Last year of contract. Hits lefties well.
