I guess this ends the Sosa discussion as a backup CF.

Things we might "know" about 2023 Phils

#1 - Kyle Schwarber sux - Tired of this %80 percent either pop-up of strike-out machine. Enough

#2 - Turner is good. Heck of an add. Hands down.

#3 - Our starting staff is in trouble. We need another arm. Not sure how we fix this.

#4 - The "front" end of our bullpen sux. Bad.

#5 - No idea about the "back end" of the pen. Need to have an actual LEAD to test this. 0-4

#6 - Losing Rhys HURT. Love him or not missing 30 HR is gonna be rough.

#7 - They are RUSHING Harper Back. This is BAD and will END IN TEARS.....

Phight on, but this has been ugly....

Disagree on #3. We have a good rotation. They have not yet pitched like they're capable. If they do, we'll be OK. If they don't no amount of "Adding arms" will fix 2023.

On #4, the first third of the season almost always involves figuring out the bullpen. It's just magnified right now because nothing else is working.

Agree on #6, because they just had no way to be prepared for the trickle-down effect of ineffective hitters who will be in the lineup on a regular basis. Castellanos is our only hope & that's terrifying.

Strong agree on #7.

Phillies had two 5 game losing streaks last Sept - and I was as down on them as anyone. Obviously, they proved me wrong

Not happy with the 0-4 start, but too early to over-react

Probably a 50-50 chance it ends up at 0-6.
Still manageable.
The most painful one is still blowing that opener. The other ones were basically lost causes

@CSeidmanNBCS

The Phillies are the first National League team in recorded history to start a season 0-4 with an ERA over 9.00.

Honestly, with this franchise's history, I'd be bummed if we didn't hold that distinction.

First franchise with 10,000 losses.

97 years before first World Series win.

the 97 years before winning a WS has to be some kind of record in the history of organized sport. its inconceivable

Agree with Foles. 0-4 start is only different b/c its the start of the season and there are higher expectations. no reason to think it won't be similar to last year with it coming down the end of September. Bit tougher this year though - 3 v Braves, 4 v Mets, then the Pirates and end with the Mets.

As the season unfurls, I think the thing to keep an eye on is whether other potential wild-card teams emerge.

NL could truly be identical to last year, just with different matchups. .... For fun, assume Braves, Cardinals, Dodgers win the divisions.

That leaves Mets, Padres, Phillies, Brewers vying for 3 spots.

Does anyone see a team vying to be among those four? I don't.
