Here's one way to look at Dylan Covey: It's an experiment to see if the pitching staff can survive while having one guy that you can almost never use.

Because that's what they must do with Rule 5 Noah Song in July & August if they want to keep him for next year. (It will be in easier in September, with call-ups)

Can the Phillies continue contending with Song taking up a spot in all of July & August?
I think they have to. He's a prospect they need to retain, given the dearth of pitching.

Only two more years before he's a free agent. Phillies should consider signing him long-term in a way that overpays his 2024 and 2025 arbitration years in exchange for a four-year extension. See if he'll bite on the security of something like 6/110.

Walker: 30 innings 1.50 ERA

Was there any hype behind Suarez when he was in the minors?

I just don't recall ever thinking he had a chance to be as good as he has been

There really wasn't, though he pitched well at every level.

My favorite thing: As an 18-year-old in the Venezuela Summer League, he pitched 80.2 innings and walked ONE batter.

I mean, for a #5, Nola is decent. I guess we need to trade for a #4.

Jokes aside, I still sorta like the Rich Hill idea. To do much better than that will cost prospects we can't afford to trade for a backend rental
