Well, in fairness, it was only 77 years without winning a WS 1903-1980. However, they didn't win any NL titles 1883-1902 either

Minnesota Vikings and Texas Rangers are both at 61 years, so they could exceed the Phillies futility. However, there were a lot less teams in MLB pre 1961

NL could truly be identical to last year, just with different matchups. .... For fun, assume Braves, Cardinals, Dodgers win the divisions.

That leaves Mets, Padres, Phillies, Brewers vying for 3 spots.

Does anyone see a team vying to be among those four? I don't.
I wouldn't rule the Giants completely out, but a lot of subpar NL teams as you implied

Yeah, I'm assuming the Giants can't hang, but they have fewer games vs. LA and SD and are only two years removed from winning 100+ games.
Still, if the Phillies can't distance themselves from a team like SF, they have far bigger issues than we imagined.

yeah well the phillies' 11,000 plus losses and counting probably won't be caught.

[Prior to today’s game, the Phillies recalled INF Kody Clemens from Lehigh Valley (AAA) and placed INF Darick Hall on the 10-day IL (retro to 4/6) with a right thumb sprain.] - Phillies

#Phillies manager Rob Thomson says Darick Hall is gonna have surgery on his thumb and he’ll be out at least a month. He said Kody Clemens will get most starts at 1B but Bohm will get some too.

NO. They absolutely cannot go multiple weeks with Kody Clemens getting regular starts. They just cannot.
Time to trade anyone not named Painter or Abel from the farm and get a real first baseman

A trade is needed. It doesn't have to be something huge, but it does need to be someone of major league caliber. It could be a 1B, 3B or OF. The Phils have flexibility, what they need is offense.

Kind of asinine for Thomson to say that Clemens is going to see significant time at 1B when they have Sosa, who has been one of their best hitters since Day 1 of spring training and he's a Gold Glove-level defender. You have to put your best team on the field. Right now that's Bohm/Sosa, not a Triple-A player.

Team is not going to panic one week into the season, nor is any other team going to make a significant trade right now.

Yep. I think the guys who can play will rise to the top.

IF IF IF they can avoid further serious injuries, I think we'll see:

-- Bohm everyday 1B
-- Sosa everyday 2B
-- Kingery takes Sosa's superutility role, including replacing Pache as backup CF

That's still going to leave plenty of at-bats for Cave, Harrison and even Kody Clemens.
If I were the Phillies, I'd be putting Guthrie at 1B at Triple-A and see if he can handle the position enough for occasional starts there, replacing Clemens. He's never played it, though.
