There's enough talent. This is on underperforming players, for the most part. Maybe 10% on Thomson. Even with star players out, you have to beat the Marlins and Reds. The bats must carry the team against mediocre pitching. And the pitchers must get the job done against mediocre hitting. Which is what they've faced so far.

The Phillies have long had a bad habit of playing down to the level of bad opponents and getting kicked in the teeth. That's how you get into holes like the one they're in now. Part of the shame is that Stott, Bohm and Marsh have been hitting, and it's being wasted. The $20M pitchers and hitters have to do what they're capable of. And they are capable of it.

But we lost SP depth when we let Thor and Gibson go. They weren’t great for sure, but we can’t continue to start Strahm and Falter.

We end up with a lot of relievers being exposed having to pitch more innings.

Also Hoskins injury was devastating considering Castellanos is totally washed
They needed one more SP in the offseason. Painter at best was going to be a guy who could give them 80-100 lightning-bolt innings, preferably in the second half.

I'm not going to tout Thor (who got rocked in his last start) or Gibson, but they needed SOMEONE who could eat innings.

The bullpen will be better when Strahm is in it, but he & Falter aren't the problems. Nola, Wheeler and Walker have to step up.

And, yeah, I think we're getting to the point where it's clear how much Hoskins meant to this offense (slumps aside). I still think they have to replace that bat, even when Harper returns. But if they don't start winning, there will be no point in trading prospects for a solid first baseman.

Two more legitimately mediocre teams coming up after Cincy -- The White Sox and Rockies are NOT good. They have way less talent than the Phillies.

If the Phillies do not make hay in the next 8 days, it's going to be a very hard uphill climb with the new balanced schedule. We don't have 19 games vs. the Nationals to fatten up our record.

This is not a good team.
No, it's not.
And this is not a good board when you're like this.
There's a way to make misery into a decent communal experience for folks who genuinely like the Phillies and can be critical & frustrated.
But literally all your do is spew hatred to everyone.
I couldn't even come here for two months in the first half of last season, and it wasn't always that way.
Just very frustrated by how badly they have played…
Being critical of bad play is very far from “ spewing hatred “. Your opinion ,notwithstanding
Sorry you feel this way.
I just get frustrated too, and maybe I misread your posts.
Strahm has been great until today. Obviously he was "not good" today and that's probably all you meant.
Schwarber is a good player -- miscast at the top of the lineup -- who has been underwhelming this year, alongside Turner and Realmuto.
Castellanos has actually been decent.

They basically had a green light from Middleton this winter on expenditures, and the front office still chose to enter this season with Cave, Hall, Harrison, Kimbrel and no starting pitcher depth.

The Brian Anderson thing might be the one that ticks me off the most.

Just the 2023 version of the Big Red Machine :(

Josh Harrison pitching twice in the first 15 games is obviously not ideal.
