Bryce Harper is just getting a day off, the Phillies say.

Minor point: The Phillies can basically pick their spot to use Harper as a PH in the late innings, if it matters.
He could literally PH for anyone.

Placido Polanco, Karen Carpenter and Roman Quinn would have been a better trio

I am ok with Ruly, but Karen was an amazing singer.

John Quinn was GM 50 + years ago.

Took over a dismal Phil's franchise from the down years in the mid 50's.
Made some decent trades to bring in Jim Bunning, Johnny Callison, Tony Taylor, and a couple other starters from the 1964 team.

Signed Richie Allen and Rick Wise out of high school.

He also made the trade for Steve Carlton, lol, that alone gets him on the wall.

Understood, but except for 64, Phils were never in contention and the team was real bad his final years.

Obviously the Carlton trade was a great one, but he also traded Jenkins

The argument for him to me would be that Luzinski, Bowa, Boone & Schmidt were all drafted/signed under him

I read Harper was out for a rest, because he has played in only 23 games as a DH and is hitting well. Schwarber needs the rest. I personally think Thomson is afraid to rest him. After-all according to Thomson he is close to putting it together. The HR and near HR that he had in Atlanta, I disregarded because the Braves were not putting a lot of effort in getting him out, since they were so far ahead.
