Schwarbs is like, well, if I'm going to hit .180, I may as well do it with 40 homers.

The downside to a lot of home runs is everyone trying for home runs, right?

Schwarber is a one trick pony. Moniak is hitting 0.329 playing left field. He only has 6 HRs, but I would take the younger, better hitter and better defensive player, than someone like Schwarber. I don't really blame him, I blame the front office bozo that signed him to a $79M contract when he is only worth $5M/year at best.Christopher wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2023 2:22 am Schwarbs is like, well, if I'm going to hit .180, I may as well do it with 40 homers.

Hate to get drawn into defending Schwarber but....
-- He was very productive last year: A 2.2 WAR player
-- He leads the team in walks this year, with almost double the # of walks as the #2 guy
-- Higher OBP than Realmuto or Bohm, despite the .179 average
-- While Harper was NLCS MVP, Kyle could have been, too. We probably don't go to WS without him.
-- Let's see how Moniak does in an extended period. He's enjoying a .400 BABIP, is whiffing at a prodigious rate and NEVER walks. I have nothing against him; he could turn out to be very sustainable as a platoon outfielder, but that's not a huge need at the moment.

I thought Walker was cooked and would need an extended IL period about a month ago. He's turned it around.

As someone pointed out in the twittersphere today, the Phillies don't need Paul Goldschmidt or even CJ Cron. What they need is for their good hitters to have better at-bats and, crucially, draw more walks. Nobody on this team besides Schwarber is walking, and that's not sustainable for scoring runs regularly.
