2023 MLB Trade Deadline rumors & discussion (Deadline: Aug. 1)

Post by Christopher »

Lot to discuss.
- Who would the Phillies be willing to trade from the system?
- What should their priorities be?
- What farmhands might join team in August/September and have impact? (Darick Hall also fits into this discussion, though we are lefty-heavy)
- Is there any unthinkable scenario in which shopping Nola makes sense?

I haven't spent a ton of time thinking about this yet, but I think one guy I'm very interested in is Cardinals LH starter Jordan Montgomery

Good job Chris!

Cards will definitely be sellers.

Someone on twitter today suggested that the Phils trade for Chase Anderson......

He has been decent this year, but no doubt he would be a disaster if they traded for him

Also, on that note, a lot of ex Phillies doing well in bullpen roles

Robertson
Matt Moore
Enyel
Leiter
Neris
Milner
etc

I think a lot of the strategy is coming to come down to whether Bryce Harper will ACTUALLY see a significant amount of time at first base.

My hunch is that he will not.
Which will make it far less of a priority to find a RH bat that can play LF. (Though a hybrid 1B/LF bench guy could work)

People talking McCutchen or Goldschmidt or other bats.

I want a starting pitcher, especially assuming Harper can play 1B by mid-July. And maybe a cheap RH platoon bat for left field.

Save the powder on trading prospects until this winter, when we need to replace Nola.

If Harper can play 1B, we have:

C Realmuto
1B Harper (Clemens as late defensive replacement)
2B Stott
SS Turner
3B Bohm
LF Cave/Muzziotti/Pache/cheap trade acquisition
CF Marsh
RF Castellanos
DH Schwarber
