Saved by the utter haplessness of the Mets.

I'm not sure Showalter makes it through the next week or so.
Gary Cohen on the Mets’ cast very pointedly opined that Showalter used his B level relievers in the 8th instead his A level guys..
A bad week at home vs the Brewers and Giants could be his demise
Yeah, Robertson did pitch 1.2 innings yesterday, but on only, what, 11 pitches?
Also D-Rob was warming in the NINTH when all the damage was done.
In his postgame presser he said” Robbie could only go1 inning,the9th”..when asked why not him in the 8th,then..He said “then we nobody to pitch the 9th..huh? how bout taking a3 run lead into the 9th and using all the guys you used in the 8th? Head scratch..

Guy is trying too hard to be internet famous.
Also, as more rational Mets fans have pointed out, there are some ways in which Eppler has really hamstrung Showalter in the bullpen, and maybe today was Showalter's passive-aggressive way of explaining that Eppler.

After catching the replay, what an incredibly weird game that leaves you frustrated and bemused. It's a win. Not a very satisfying win as much as it was a Mets' collapse of epic proportions.

I tried to feel good about it but as every run was scored without a swing, let alone a hit, I just found myself shaking my head. They never did get a hit with a RISP. I guess they will get their share of these on both ends, but it doesn't make it any better.

In the end?

It's a win. It's a series win.

Moving along.

"Unsatisfying" win might be going a bit too far. As a lifelong Phillies fan, I'll take anything I can get against the Mutts.

I think if you want to find positives:
-- They won a game when trailing by 3 in the 8th inning
-- Most of the at-bats in the 8th inning displayed great patience
-- They did NOT help a pitcher in a jam with stupid swings; they let him self-destruct
-- Walks and hit-by-pitch mean the Phillies can't make baserunning blunders
-- Kimbrel was great AGAIN

The Phillies have a lot of teams to climb over in the standings. The Mets don't appear to be one of them.
