Sixers Get
Halliburton
Barnes
Hield
2 1st round picks

Kings Get
Simmons
Harris
Thybulle
does this really make them better?

Yes....simply becuase they DONT have Simmons. Now if Simmons was playing and he was still dedicated to the team while waiting to be traded, like a professional would, then no....I would never do that trade. But since he and his agent are doing their bullshit, then yes they would be a better team doing this trade.

All of these pieces make a sign and trade in the offseason much easier for a player like Harden. There's little doubt in my mind that is what all of this is for. Regardless of what happens this season I think what Morey is trying to do is put together a package to get Harden in the offseason.

Good. You don’t give up young guys like that unless it’s part of a package to make the team significantly better.

Ben would thrive in a place like Sacramento or San Antonio where there isn't a giant magnifying glass on him and a room full of media to hop on him when he doesn't shoot. Similar to how Fultz got better (still not to the point where he's justified as a number 1 pick) when he went to Orlando.

That being said, the issues with the roster still exist if you have Tobias and his contract on the books. I firmly believe that Morey's plan is to get out from under the contracts of both Ben and Tobias and then go for the sign and trade route for Harden or Dame or some other big name. If that means holding on to Ben till the offseason to make that happen, so be it. If those teams want the financial flexibility and youth influx that a Halliburton, some contracts plus picks provides, then that's the route to go. I know it's frustrating for Sixers fans to see Joel have an MVP year without a team to surround him, but I still trust the process, and Morey still has to put his stamp on this team.

From Shams and Sam Amick

"the 76ers are believed to prefer to wait in order to pursue Harden or another superstar in the offseason and thus want to save Simmons for that potential sign-and-trade rather than take what’s available on the current market."

This is exactly what I said this morning. This is the way.

Also interesting to note from that article is this nugget

"The 76ers believe in Tyrese Maxey’s long-term ability at point guard"

To me, it would seem that Maxey is (rightfully so) untouchable in a trade.

I love Matisse, his defense, his personality, his willingness to do whatever is asked of him, but if moving him gets you Harden, you do it.

The time to push in the chips of the process is coming, it may not be at the deadline, but it is coming.
