They had to give him a shot, but the odds were always low

Their pitching better hold up, otherwise they could fall back too much by the trade deadline.

Not Sanchez's fault.

The bigger concern is not this loss or the Phillies' offense, even.
The bigger concern is that we don't want San Diego to get hot, because that'll make the wild card extremely precarious.

I have felt for weeks that the Padres were likely to make a run

The Phils offense is a big problem - they are going to lose a lot of ground the next few weeks if it doesn't improve quickly

2 garbage time runs doesn't change the fact that this offense is not good

Turner is an albatross

I really detest his stupidity as a hitter. Going to be the worst contract in team history

As others have said, we can just try to be hopeful about 2024.

This time last year, we would paid off Castellanos' full contract and throw in Mick Abel just to ship him out of town.

C,you are the eternal optimist, and maybe you’re right. Can’t help thinking, though,I watching every AB,that he is washed mentally and physically in 2023. He is the ultimate rally killer ..
The inability to recognize what pitchers are doing to him, with bad sliders and pitches outof the zone is really unbelievable. His chase rate has to be among the worst in baseball
Why wouldn’t the gallactically stubborn and stupid Thomson move him out of the 2 and try Stott there?!

I don't disagree that he's been horrible this year. Bring back Steve Jeltz.

I also think that, in the Phillies' long term problems, it's not one I'm going to dwell on. It's Middleton's money, not mine.

My biggest big-picture concern is that our rotation is headed toward being an outright disaster by 2025, and there's no amount of money that can solve that. Years of bad drafts and developmental failures are catching up to us.
