Vasquez being this effective was not on my bingo card.
One thing the Phillies have done well the past few years is combing the waiver wire and finding/improving pitchers on the fringes of the roster.

It does not seem to take much to turn the Padres back into a headcase.

A loss for them tomorrow may push them into sell mode

1. Happiness and sweet relief
2. Treading water, panic averted
3. DOOM
#1, though of course being us we will find things of concern.
The other thing that makes today good is that they gutted it out in the heat. The Padres ultimately wilted.

If we end up with the Mets and Padres joining the other obvious sellers (Cardinals, Cubs, White Sox, etc.) it could tilt it toward being a pretty decent buyers' market, especially for secondary parts like platoon OF, fifth starter, bullpen...

We're still a game out of the wild card even with today's sweep.

Three spots available for Marlins, Diamondbacks, Giants, Phillies and either Reds or Brewers
