I've been thinking about it, and October is really going to come down almost entirely to Nola. He will start the first or second game of the best-of-3 wildcard. If they advance he'll start early in the best-of-5 NLCS.
Phillies won't go far -- maybe not even out of the wild card series -- if he continues to pitch like he has in the regular season.
OTOH, if he finds some semblance of his old self, it's not hard to imagine this team making another October run. The offense is starting to click into place.

I mean, we'd all like to live in a reality where Thomson goes with the hottest starting pitchers in the first 3 games -- whether it's Wheeler, Sanchez, Walker, Lorenzen, whoever.
But we know that won't happen. If Nola's healthy, he's getting the ball first or second, and it could doom them.

I'll worry about playoff rotation after I hear "Phillies have clinched a playoff berth."Christopher wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 5:22 pm I've been thinking about it, and October is really going to come down almost entirely to Nola. The Phillies are going to be in the playoffs. It's not bad mojo to say that.
It's just a matter of whether the experience lasts longer than 2 or 3 games.
It's just as easy to imagine them going 2-and-out as it is to imagine them giving the Braves all they handle.

Scary that Nola's and Corbin's ERAs aren't far apart.

Nola no command. Awful body language. Looks like he doesn’t want to be there. Mental Midget
