off topic but who's worse, Joe Giglio (phillies shoudl trade for Ohtani as a rental piece) or Eliot Shorr Parks (every single take)

Cardinals DFA lefty reliever Genesis Cabrera.
I'm sure they'll get something small for him in a trade, but that's the kind of reclamation project that Phillies have done very well with in past few years.

The Phillies-Orioles series could be a lot of fun. They might surpass the Rays for first place by the time of that series.

As a general fan, it's nice to see some churn and fresh faces among the top teams.

Orioles last time in the playoffs was 2012 I believe so yes. Great to see some new teams up there.

They have some dreck like the Phils did from 2014-2021. Very slow rebuild.

Wow. Thanks for the info. I didn't look anything up I just remebered Ibanez slamming one back in 12 for the Yankees to knock them out of the playoffs. Thought that was the last time.

*******

The Phillies announced this morning that their medical staff has recommended an ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction (i.e. Tommy John surgery) and ulnar nerve transposition procedure for top pitching prospect Andrew Painter. He’ll receive a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache next week before proceeding with the operation. Assuming he indeed undergoes the surgery, he’ll miss the remainder of the 2023 season and quite possibly the majority of the 2024 campaign.

This is huge for planning the 2024 through 2026 rotations.

Painter is very young and will likely have a very good career ahead of him.

But he's probably not pitching in the majors earlier than the second half of 2025. And the odds of him being a workhorse top-of-rotation starter by 2026 are lessened.

Phillies will need a plan that keeps their rotation World Series competitive for the next couple of years.

I knew this the day they shut him down.

This is the problem I have with the Phillies.and the Flyers. Their medical staffs have sucked for too many years, hell, decades. The Eagles used to be this bad but they've gotten better and better, beginning since Chip Kelly's years.

They have wasted half a year, same as they did with Harper. They should have just done the surgery for both, Harper would have been back in April and Painter might have been able to get to ST 2024. Unless he's a miraculous healer, Painter may miss all of 2024. It might not be worth it to get him on a mound by mid season 2024.

Now he's not even a trade chip for someone like Soto.
