Thompson should be on the hot seat for this embarassing crap. He does nothing to change this woeful dead team. Show some fire, get tossed ,read them the riot act. And nothing. Even after a day off, it is more of the same. Chasing pitches out of the zone, hard swinging aiming for homeruns, and just so many mental mistakes. Honestly, the fans should be booing the shit out of them tonight.

Firing Kevin Long won't have much of an impact in my opinion at this point. The problem with the Phillies is that they have overly invested in hitters who think primarily of a hitting the long ball. They chase way too many pitches and let an equal number of pitches go through the heart of the strikezone without offering a swing. The other issue is that many of the hitters on this team are aging veterans who are not changing their stripes all that much. About the only veteran who seemed to place emphasis on not chasing as many pitches out of the strikezone was Schwarber.Helios1989 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 12:43 am Huge lofted swings. Dead pull. Kevin Long needs to go first or this is going to be a lost season. I know some love him here but either they aren't listening or he is teaching this. I know what I think but it doesn't really matter. Our inability to hit is affecting everything.
Outside of the first half of last season, the Castellanos signing was a bust. It appears more and more that the long term extension for J.T. was a huge mistake. And the Turner signing hasn't really given much in the value expected out of a contract like that. Combine that with regression from Stott, Marsh returning to the form he was with the Angels, and the lack of development from Rojas as a hitter, the long term prospects of this team being a yearly contender are minimal at best.

After the collapse against the Diamondbacks, I would not have been sad had they announced Thomson and his staff were fired. All Thomson really is a manager who can ride along in the background when things are going well, but is unable to do anything when things are going poorly.bigel57 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 12:58 amThompson should be on the hot seat for this embarassing crap. This game had we have come to expect. A shitty, unwelcomed, return starting performance from Walker, poor at bats up and down the lineup (4 fucking hits), and no sense that anyone on this team gives a damn. The only sort of positive was that pen only gave up two runs in five innings.
Now 7-16 since the All star break. The tailspin continues.

Something is going on in that clubhouse. This is deeper than not playing well. Theres got to be some personal issues between guys, or pitchers or between the staff, and players or whatever.
There is no emotion in the dugout. Usually when there is a slump, guys bring each other back up, or piss out at each other. You see some emotion. There is zip. None. Nada.
Maybe there was talk about getting rid of Stubbs and the guys revolted. I don't know.
